A Message From Meg
I am an archaeologist who was born and brought up in Toronto, Canada. I returned to Toronto in 2001 after living away for many years in order to pursue a career as an archaeological travel consultant and lecturer.
Since then I have led trips for the Canadian company, Odyssey Adventures in Archaeology, and taught mini-courses at the Royal Ontario Museum and the Women’s Art Association.
I have been interested in archaeology since 1974 when I participated in my first dig in England.
It was a Roman estate manager’s villa called Barnsley Park, just outside of Cirencester, and from that first experience I was hooked. Since then I have gone on to dig on many projects in Egypt, Cyprus, Greece, and Italy and underwater projects in Turkey and Ontario.
Education
I have been fortunate in benefiting from a number of university programs.
I attended the University of Toronto and studied Fine Art History and Classical Civilization. I followed this up with a masters in Nautical Archaeology from Texas A&M University in college Station Texas, and a second masters in Classical Archaeology from the University of Michigan.
During that time I spent a memorable year at the American School of Classical Studies in Athens.
Teaching
My teaching experience ranges from high school through university levels.
I taught Greek, Latin and Classical Civilization at Thornton Hall in Toronto for one year. I gained my university teaching training being a TA at the University of Michigan for Greek Mythology, Great Books, Art History.
I went on to teach abroad for the Lake Forest College Program in Greece and the Brock University Archaeological Practicum in Cyprus.
Now I teach mini-courses for adult education at the Royal Ontario Museum. I usually teach two sessions of 6 weeks in the late fall and winter. Feel free to contact me for more information about these courses.
I teach on a wide selection of topics which in the past have included Archaeology of the Greek Bronze Age, Greek Mythology, Roman Mythology, roman Britain, Sex and Gender in Classical Greece, Ancient Athens, Ancient Rome, Ship Technology and Greek Ships.
Photographs
During all my travels, I have always carried a camera with me and although not a brilliant photographer, I have often been lucky to be in the right place at the right time.
On my gallery page, you can view 12 examples of my photography, which have been collected into a calendar for 2005. If you are interested in purchasing a copy of this calendar, please contact me.
